ABOUT US

Vuk i Milica started with my children.

I’m Milica.

We live in England, and my children are growing up with two languages — English and Serbian. Like many parents raising children outside Serbia, I want Serbian to be a normal part of their lives, not something that only appears when we sit down to “learn Serbian”.

So I’ve always looked for little things that can help: a book they might pick up themselves, a game, a T-shirt with a line they understand, something in Cyrillic that catches their eye. It doesn’t have to be a lesson every time. Sometimes reading one word and asking what it means is enough.

Milica with her children in Serbia and the Vuk Azbukić i Milica Ćirilica book

The book came first.

“Vuk Azbukić i Milica Ćirilica – Letnji raspust” came from exactly that. I wanted a book that would bring Cyrillic closer to my children through a story they recognise — long summer holidays in Serbia, grandparents, family and the things that are part of their own lives.

I didn’t set out to build a whole brand. But once the book was finished, I kept thinking of other things I would genuinely buy for my own children.

From one book to a small shop.

Today you’ll find books, games, posters, T-shirts, tote bags and other things in Serbian. Some we make ourselves; others we’ll choose carefully. My only rule is that something shouldn’t be here just because it’s “in Serbian” — it should also be lovely, well made and make sense for children growing up outside Serbia.

I don’t think any one of these products will teach a child Serbian on its own. But it might make the language a little more present, start a question, make Cyrillic feel more familiar, or simply make them laugh. That’s really the whole idea.

Vuk i Milica is still growing

The ideas come from our life — and from you.

I don’t have a list of fifty products planned in advance. Ideas come from my children, from conversations with other parents and from the messages you send me. If there’s something you’d love to see here, tell me.
